We spent a lot of time looking into wedding photographers for our wedding in Charleston. We decided on Amara Photography because we thought they’re photos were beautiful and they came highly recommended in their reviews. We’re so happy we went with them! The photos turned out beautifully and they were a pleasure to work with from start to finish. I know we’ll cherish the photos for years to come. Thank you!

Amara Photography brought so much energy and fun to picture taking for our May wedding! They worked so well with each wedding party group and made taking photos (which my fiancé and I were thinking we just wanted to get over with) one of our favorite parts of the whole day! Everyone in the wedding party commented on how comfortable they felt with the camera people and how “into it” the photographers were. We were all laughing and enjoying when one of them took a photo and looked at the screen and said “beautiful” or “oh yea!”. They had great ideas for different shots and listened to our ideas as well … I can’t wait to see the pictures and re-live the day. Thanks a million!!

I never write reviews but I just had to say thank you to Amara Photography for the beautiful photos they shot of my wedding. I may or may not have gotten teary-eyed as I looked through the photos they took. They did such a good job of capturing the “story” of the day and I’m so grateful I’ll have these images to look back on throughout the years. If you’re looking for a photographer in Charleston, definitely check out Amara Photography, we are so so happy we went with them!

Some experiences in life happen only ONE TIME

Your wedding day is a perfect example. Even if you’ve been married before, your wedding day is a unique, once in a lifetime experience you’ll always remember. You’ve met the person you want to share your life with and in just a few moments your future with them will become more permanent. Promises will be made and a whole batch of new firsts will begin to happen. First kiss as a married couple, first dance first etc…

Then one day – it finally arrives!

No matter how much you plan and envision, your wedding day is sure to be a whirlwind of activity and emotions and laughing and hugging and being with those you care the most for. And it’s over in a flash.

You’ve only got two sets of eyes on your wedding day (yours and that crazy person you just married) and most of your wedding day is spent staring at each other! Which is why it’s so amazing when you receive your photos. A recent couple whose wedding we shot said it best, “As we were looking through our photos, we couldn’t believe how much we had already forgotten about the day, but there was also so much that we just didn’t see! If it wasn’t for the photos we never would have! The photos (and each other, of course!) are all we have left of our incredible day so you can imagine how important they are to us. (Super important.)”

Wedding photos are memories.

Which is why photography on your wedding day is essential: They will become a repository of memories from your special day.

Our Style + Vision

Wedding days are filled with real moments and emotions and our goal is to capture these natural moments as they happen. However, not everyone has supermodel-like comfort in front of a camera, so we can help with poses or prompts and we always do our best to help everyone we photograph feel comfortable. And, ideally, you’ll get so comfortable and we’ll be sneaky and ninja-like that you’ll forget we’re there, at least part of the time.

We would love to capture your day and your story and help you re-experience all the moments for years to come.

Some of our packages include a Complementary Engagement Photography Session, which is a great way to get to know us before the wedding. By the time we do your wedding photos, we’ll be old friends and that will help your wedding photos be all the more natural.

Our passion is caputuring all that your story is. We want you to be able to re-experience those memories over and over again, for years to come.

– The Team @ Amara Photography

We hired Amara Photography to shoot our engagement and wedding photos and we had an amazing experience. I think the photos really captured our personalities, which is hard to do since I’m sure camera shy. We had two photographers and both were amazing. They helped us feel totally at ease (which is no small feat, I can tell you) and my whole family loved them. I’ve already recommended them to some friends getting married and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for fun and talented photographers to capture their day. They also delivered our photos super fast, which was a nice bonus!

The easiest 5 stars ever! I was looking for a photographer with a modern, yet timeless style because I feel like a lot of photographers use really trendy techniques and then you end up with really dated photos in a few years. A friend of mine recommended Amara Photography and I thought their style was perfect so I decided to book them. They were a perfect fit for what we wanted. We got 2 photographers and they really worked it to get all the important photos, yet they were totally unobtrusive and really blended into the background. For the group photos, we were laughing the whole time, which made for some fantastic candid photos with genuine smiles. They really listened to what we wanted the photos turned out AMAZING! I wish I could give more than 5 stars!

What can I say that other reviewers haven’t already said? Amara Photography really is the BEST! From start to finish, working with them was just a pleasant and easy experience. The photos are just beautiful! Everyone who sees them raves about how beautiful they are and wants to know who our photographer was. I know Amara Photography gets a lot of business through word of mouth and I can see why. I am one happy customer and I will definitely be recommending them to anyone looking for a photographer. They are great for family photos too. We just did a family session with them and the photos turned out fantastic! I plan on doing a yearly photo with them from now on. The best!

We’re located in Charleston SC, but frequently photograph weddings all around the Lowcountry. Places like Mount Pleasant, Summerville, James Island, Isle of Palms, Awenda, and North Charleston have some of the most beautiful and creative wedding venues in the Southeast!

Charleston and the surrounding area is one of the most popular destinations in the country for weddings! It’s easy to see why with the incredible venues, southern charm, giant live oak trees, wonderful climate. And all these things (plus everything else great about Charleston) make it ideal for wedding photography. There’s a reason there are so many great Charleston wedding venues to choose from!

As wedding photographers, we love the huge variety for weddings that can be found in Charleston and the Lowcountry. From idyllic plantations like Lowndes Grove, Boone Hall Plantation and Magnolia Plantation, to elopements on Isle of Palms, White Point Gardens or Folly Beach. There’s also great places for big family weddings at the William Aiken House, Founders Hall, Cannon Green or Alhambra Hall or unique, one-of-a-kind weddings at Upstairs at Midtown, the American Theater, Patriot’s Point or on a boat with Charleston Harbor Tours.

No matter what you have in mind for your wedding photography, the Lowcountry has the perfect spot.

It’s easy to find a wedding photographer in Charleston, but choosing one is considerably more difficult! There are more wedding vendors in Charleston than most towns its size because so many people come here to get hitched — it can be overwhelming trying to decide. But just because you can find a photographer who’s available doesn’t mean they’re the best fit for your wedding. Finding a studio whose work you love is super important and having a photographer you like being around is a must. Let’s get to know each other! Contact us to set up a meeting, phone call or video chat!

One of our favorite ways to get to know our couples is to actually photograph their proposal. Proposal photography in Charleston isn’t something many studios offer but it’s one of our favorite things to be a part of! We’ll help you plan and execute your surprise wedding proposal, even if you’re not from the area. Many couples come to Charleston and leave engaged to be married and we’re here to help!

Typically we’ll arrive at the pre-decided location and pretend to just be in the area taking photos and then will capture (from a stealthy distance) the images of you proposing. Afterward, you can point us out (this usually makes for a really fun surprise) and we’ll make our way over to take some photos of the newly engaged couple around the area.

Whether we meet you at the proposal, for the engagement photos or on your wedding day, we will be honored to be a small part of your special memories.
